Waynette Smith has a Master of Science (M.S.) Degree and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree in Counseling. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and holds certification as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Ms. Smith has over 20 years of experience in social services and behavioral health working with diverse populations. Ms. Smith works with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and relationship problems who want to reclaim a more fulfilling life. She takes an empathetic and supportive approach to the challenges her clients experience. Ms. Smith utilizes an integrative approach to therapy. Using various therapeutic approaches based on the individual needs of the client, such as, Supportive Therapy where the therapist engages in an entirely encouraging, emotional, and supportive relationship with the client as a process of promoting healthy defense mechanisms, particularly in the context of interpersonal relationships. Other approaches include, Solution-focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Play therapy.
Ms. Smith is passionate about helping school age children who have behavioral issues and who have experienced bullying, trauma, low self-esteem, and grief, to manage and adjust to life's challenges. She involves and educates parents and caregivers on the healing process to achieve wellness for the entire family. Ms. Smith also coordinates and facilitates parent education programs and therapy groups based on client need.
